Where is justice?
The McCorkles' 24-year prison sentence on charges of swindling customers
with a real-estate scam has been dismissed. However, depending on what the trial
court finds, the McCorkles still could face sentences of 17.5 to 24 years.
The McCorkles cheated no one except
those who bought videos and other materials from them. Unlike the CEOs and CFOs
of Enron, WorldCom, Global Crossing, etc., etc., which cheated everyone while
concealing their unlawful activities and drove masses to financial ruin, the
McCorkles sit in prison. The corrupt executives stole billions for their own
use, building multimillion-dollar homes, driving exotic vehicles, donating to
political parties, and smiling as retirement 401(k)s went down the toilet.
Congress wrings its hands, yet has
no plan as severe as the McCorkles face. The government took everything from
the McCorkles: money, property, offshore accounts, everything it could lay its
hands on, and put them into prison. Where is this justice now?
Oh, I almost forgot: The McCorkles
did not donate any money to political campaigns.
