Dear Chantal,

I've just seen your Mum on the 'Trisha' show on TV this morning. I missed the beginning of the show so I went on to the website to find out what it was all about.

I am totally 'gobsmacked' that a so-called developed country's legal system could treat anyone in what I can only describe as inhumane. Had you committed any one of a number of violent crimes, including the ultimate one of murder, you would have received a considerably shorter sentence and that cannot be right. In my opinion, your only 'crime' appeared to have been loving and trusting the man you had vowed with all of your heart to spend the rest of your life with. There is no crime in that.
Having read your updates on the website, I am totally amazed at how well you appear to be coping in the circumstances.

As a 32 year old woman, I can understand your strong desire for a family of your own. I am struggling against difficult circumstances of my own (which undeniably pale into insignificance against yours ) to achieve the same goal of having children. I can only say, never give up hope of this dream. You come across as such a warm, caring person and surely God cannot deny any child the chance to be born to such a loving Mother.
I will write what letters I can in support of you and I can only hope that others do the same. If everyone who saw that show wrote to President Bush and others, I'm sure that would help.

It's hard to say 'enjoy your birthday' in the circumstances but I'm sure you will do your best. It's a wonderful time of year to have a birthday, in Spring when the world is bursting into life and so full of beauty and hope. The wonderful thing about human spirit is that we always have hope in our hearts and never give up. I hope that will apply to you and your family, friends and supporters.

Take care

Mrs Julie-Marie Winterbone
