After reading a friend's Cosmo magazine I discovered an article about Chantal
and after reading it I couldnt sit there and do nothing. I don't expect to help
change the American justice system but had to tell them my feelings, below is
an email I sent to President George Bush and Vice President Cheney's official
email addresses.
After looking through a friend's magazine I read an article about an English
women who has been jailed in America for 24 years. Her only crime was not stating
that props she used in a television advert were hired! For a justice system
to work there needs to be at least a bit of common sense used which was obviously
missing in this case. How could she be jailed for longer than murderers and
child rapists? It just doesn't make sense. She hasn't hurt anyone and even though
her advert wasn't totally legitimate she was still selling hope to people who
bought her books and videos. She has already had years from her life cruely
taken away and it would be an even bigger crime to take more years from her.
President Bush has only just been re-elected, and to be honest I was pleased.
Now I'm not too sure maybe a new president would have helped her, George Bush
has the power to help Chantal walk free and spend the rest of her life with
her family, something she has missed out on for 6 years. I think anybody who
reads this email couldn't even contemplate what that would be like, I certanly
know I couldnt. I plead with whoever reads this email to bring it to the President's
attention and help bring justice to Chantal's case. At the very least what is
the possible reason to keep her in an American prision? Surely it would be beneficial
for everyone to have her transferred to an English prision so she can see her
family more than every 5-6 years?
After seeing cases about people being jailed for reasons they shouldn't before
Ihave never acted apon them, but this case had made me so outraged and upset
to think about what everyone involved has gone through I felt I had to have
my say. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil because of the injustice
of the whole case.
The punishment she has suffered already already outweighs the original crime!
It is time to let her walk free.
Thank you for reading this email.
